The passing of a jazz great

Jackie Orszaczky, the legendary bass guitarist and jazz man died on Sunday.

He passed away at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown after battling lymphoma for nearly two years.

Orszacky was born in Hungary in 1948, where he first showed signs of musical genius while studying classical piano as well as the violin.

From here he evolved into a rock-jazz musician and first toured with his band Syrius to Australia in 1971. Not long after, he emigrated.

From here, Orszacky became a feature on the rock-jazz circuit, supporting bands as a bass guitarist but also composing and creating some of the most innovative and advanced music in the industry.

He leaves as a mentor and major creative influence on all musical genres.

My heart goes out to my dear friends who knew Jackie intimately. May you all continue his beautiful work.

There will be a private service for Jackie on Friday with a public wake on Sunday at 4pm at the Harold Park Hotel.
